Just published on Optical Materials Express! We showed that after incorporating gold-nickel alloys inside modified step-index fibers, the alloy remains stable within the highly confined wire state, possessing optical properties comparable to the bulk state. This is a further step towards in the integration of high-aspect-ratio micron sized wires in optical fibers, and may be extended to a wide range of other alloys, opening up the range of materials and optical properties accessible for hybrid optical fibers.
